Small print - This year I am not picking positions for players. As I bump into you in Dubuque... tell me what position you want to play! The earlier you find me, the better chance you have of getting the position you want! Golfers will have an advantage! Anyone showing up on Saturday will be at a disadvantage.

Tournament Rules

1. FIFA rules and USSF directives will be observed except:

A) Open Competition games will be 35-minute halves for group play and 30-minute halves for the semi-finals/final. All

Over-40 and Coed Competition games will be 30-minute halves. If heat exhaustion is a problem, games may be short-

ened by agreement of the team managers.

B) Substitutions may be allowed by the referee on goal kicks, a team’s own corner kick or throw-in, on injuries, on

carding situations or after a goal, if the substitute is waiting at the halfway line at the time of the stoppage. When a team

substitutes on its own throw-in or corner kick, the opponent may also substitute, if its player(s) is/are waiting to enter. No

limit on player re-entry.

2. Eight teams play in the Over-40 Competition in two groups of four. The first and second place teams in each group

advance to the semi-finals.

3. Five teams play in the Coed Competition. Each team will play every other team once in a round-robin format. The

team with the most points wins the competition. If two teams are tied on points, the advancement procedure (below) will

be used to determine the winner.

4. Four teams play in the Open and Over-40 Rec Competitions. Each team will play every other team. The first and

second place teams will play in the final. If two teams both have six points and play each other in the last group game on

Sunday, then that game shall serve as the final.

5. Advancement will be based on total points. Wins count as 3 points, ties count as 1 point for each team; losses count

as 0 points. Ties within groups shall be resolved using the following criteria, in order, until a winner is determined: A)

Head-to-head result; B) Goal differential; C) Fewest goals allowed; D) Fair play: yellow cards = -1; second yellow cards

to the same player = -2; direct red cards = -3; E) Coin toss. In cases of three-way ties, after a primary winner is deter-

mined, the tie between the two remaining teams shall be determined by returning to Step A in the process.

6. In the semi-final and final games, two 5-minute “golden goal” overtimes will be played in case of a tie. If a winner does

not result, kicks from the penalty mark shall be taken.

7. Slide tackles are not allowed in Over-40 and Coed Competitions and shall be penalized as dangerous play (indirect

free kick) if not judged a foul by the referee.

8. Coed teams may have a maximum of six males on the field of play.

9. Players on Over-40 teams must carry proof of age with a birthday on or before August 31, 1971. A player on an Over-

40 team may also play in the Over-40 Rec Competition only if his/her birthday is on or before August 31, 1961. Team

managers are responsible for conducting age checks of players before the game is scheduled to begin. This is between

the two managers. The referee is not involved. No age protests are considered by the tournament director.

10. Players sent off with a red card or players cautioned in three different games must sit out the team’s next game.

Violent conduct or abusive behavior may result in suspension from the tournament (individual must leave the premises).

Teams shall donate $10 to the tournament charities for each red card and $5 for four or more yellow cards in a game.

11. All players must read and sign the roster/waiver of liability. Players under 18 are required to have the waiver signed

by a parent or legal guardian. Teams will not be allowed to participate until this roster/waiver form is submitted. Players

may play on teams in two different competitions, but may not play on two different teams in the same competition. In

those situations, the second team on which they play shall forfeit the game(s) in which the ineligible person played.

12. A team listed first is the home team and shall change uniforms in case of conflict. Game balls provided by the teams.

13. A team will forfeit if it is without seven players on the field when the referee is ready to start play. Any team which

forfeits a game will lose its deposit. Teams failing to appear for a game shall be banned from future tournaments. Also,

each player who is rostered with a team that fails to appear shall be subject to an indefinite personal ban from the

America’s River Soccer Classic.
